Cutter Bones Bike - 2011

Urban adventure awaits you and the trusty Cutter Bones Bike. Quick, velodrome-inspired handling cuts the bustle of sheeple in their oil-burning safety cages, while fast-accelerating wheels ride away from oblivious peds updating social-network statuses with hipstamatic flair. Durable enough for messenger work and sexy enough for barhopping, the Cutter Bones is a vessel on which to escape from the city life without ever leaving.

  • Nutted hub resists slipping, while flip-flop fixed and freewheeled single-speed drive options keep your ride versatile
  • High-flange hubs with cartridge bearings laced to deep V rims provide strength, reliability, and performance
  • Straight seat and chainstays efficiently transfer pedaling energy for sprint-winning acceleration
  • Traditional brass-riveted ergo saddle and faux leather bar tape add class to the Bones
  • The 46 x 18 tooth gearing cruises around town—without your having to walk the hills
  • Curved steel fork dampens choppy asphalt for secure handling and comfort
  • Kenda 23c tires offer grip on variable urban surfaces

Bottom Line: Pedal into your own blissful state with the quiet, smooth, and fun Cutter Bones.

Great single speed for city cruising

By: John Marchant
February 7, 2012

I got my girlfriend this bike, and she couldn't be more happy with it. It's a good entry into the fixed gear/single speed realm. The price is killer.

Your riding position will be stretched out rather than upright, but you should be fine on a 50.

The bones is a great commuter build for speed and agility. I assembled it myself which was pretty straight forward until I got to the front brake assembly, that was a little tricky especially without directions. All that aside its exactly the name, the bones its stripped down but it has everything you need to mob all over town!

That should be enough, as long as you have a few different sized allen wrenches and the wheel lugs are 15mm. With the brake installation do not over tighten the screw that the brake cable runs through (you will know which one I am talking about when you get to that). Also I found it to be easier if you put the brakes on before the front wheel and then line everything up and finish tightening all the bolts. Everything else should be easy, good luck and enjoy!

My Bones will be arriving Tuesday, do you have any specific assembly advice? Will I need any tools other than a wrench and multitool?

Hi,
I put on a larger rear tire for the winter, and it was either a 30 or 35c (!!!). The front might be a tighter fit, but just looking i'd say you could fit at least a 27c.

Great deal at the Bonktown price

By: Aaron
October 12, 2011

I've been commuting daily on this bike for about two months and I'm pretty happy with it. IMO the important stuff (frame, drivetrain, wheels, brake) are decent quality while the non-essential parts are pretty much crap:

- The fake Brooks saddle is actually pretty comfortable but won't break in like a real leather saddle
- The bar tape is REALLY thin and not much better than holding bare metal. Get some cork or foam or just wear gloves.
- Likewise, the toe clips are pretty much the cheapest I've ever seen.

The bike is a super fun ride, but you're going to need to tack on another $30-50 to replace the crummy accoutrements. 4 stars at the Bonktown price, 3 stars at full price.

Awesome value

By: sco4090586
August 4, 2011

The pros, super value, sweet paint scheme and just a great budget commuter bike.

The cons, the paint is cheap but what do you expect....the clear coats rough after 6 months of riding and the paint has blemishes from where my leg may have rubbed it. The seatpost is weak, each time the fore and aft is set I get home and it's pushed all the way back. I've tightened it as much as I dare unless I want to snap the head off of the bolt. Traditional fenders won't fit the front either you'll need the race bike type.

Great buy if you catch it on bonktown!

I'm 5'11 and I ride a 58cm 2010 Bones.

Considered sizing down to a 56cm, but for 90% of riding the 58cm is perfect.

Love Princess Peach!

By: Alyssa Forrest Realcyclist.com Employee
October 17, 2011

This is my first road bike and I am in LOVE! It's perfect for someone who only needs single speed, and just wants a cruiser for barhopping, commuting, and everything or anything in between. I have never ridden a fixie, but if fixed is for you, im sure this thing would be perfect too! As you can see from the photo I got the white version. It has a bit of pearl to it, so definitely an awesome looking bike! I'm absolutely pumped on this bike, and highly recommend it for anyone that wants a fun bike for city livin'
ps:
I was playing a lot of N64 Mario Cart at time of purchase, thus why she is named princess peach. Tires are the Fyxation Session 700 Dual Compound Tire
