Cutter Glycerin Floor Pump - 2009

Sleek, solid, durable, and as classy as all your matching Swedish furniture, the wood-handled Cutter Glycerin Floor Pump wants nothing more than to keep your finest rides at optimal pressure. A large PSI/Bar pressure gauge and a micro-adjustment valve offer precise and dependable pumps, while the Glycerin’s Presta and Schrader valve compatibility gets along with all your friend’s rides.

Bottom Line: Blowin’ up tires since ’08.

spend your money on a real pump

By: Westchester Cyclist
September 25, 2009

I bought this as a cheap substitue pump to through in the back of my car for race day or trips (since I inevitably forget my pump eveytime i put the bike in my car and have to borrow someone elses) As most of the other reviews note the major weakness is the locking mechanism. When using this to pump up the prestas on my roadie it has been fairly difficult to lock using the twisting motion with out loosing some pressure and sometime doesnt seal so you have to unlock then lock again and screw around with it. Other than that it works fine. My recommendation is that if you dont want to spend 10min screwing around with your pumps locking mechanism to inflating your tires spend the money buy a quality pump. Not to name names but I've had my other floor pump a Topeak for 10yrs and no problems.

Depends on you!

The twist lock is awkward unless you're familiar with it. While it's not a problem for personal use, the inevitable "hey can I borrow your pump" that happens in the parking lot gets annoying because you have to opperate the pump lock for the person.

The twist mechanism will not work with HED or Zipp 404 valve stem extensions. I don't know if it will work with others, but for those two wheel systems it does not.

Price for a metal-body pump with great handle is amazing.

(Accuracy v. Precision for the science kids) Gauge is precise, but consistently reads 5psi low (assuming that the cross-referencing gauge was accurate). Compensating for that, is simple.

Looks can be decieving

I bought this thinking a pump is a pump. Well this one never worked out well for me. The mechanism for locking the end onto the tire utilizes a twist method instead of the standard pop top. I only use schraeder with this pump and for some reason the seal never works that well even when in locked position. I am planning on returning it for a standard pump.

I like it, my wife likes it!

By: doughall1414103

My wife and I have had a debate over pumps for some time. I have my preferences towards accurate guages and easy valve connections. Her prefererence has been the twist-to-connect hose tips. This pumps takes care of that and has an accurate guage along with reasonable air volume per pump stroke. The wood handles looks pretty darn cool, too!

Pumps Fast!

I feel like I can pump a tire up in 4 pumps with this pump. Nice quality, guage works good, and the wood handle gives it some style.

Loved this pump untill the tip broke. Like other Cutter pumps I've owned, this one busted like all the rest. Buy a different pump if your wanting one that will hold up.

Cutter Glycerin Floor Pump Does the Job

By: Merebea Danforth Realcyclist.com Employee

I like the Glycerin Floor Pump fine, but there are a few things I would change. The head locks by twisting it, and I prefer a lever to pull up instead. You twist it one way for the Schrader valves and the other for Presta. I find that it is very stiff to twist in and out of the Presta lock, and I end up loosing a lot of air at either end of the pumping process (putting the pump head on and taking it off the valve). The gauge is relatively easy to read, even for it being at the bottom of the pump. The twisting dial for the arrow is also a nice feature. In all, I think the Cutter pumps are a nice value at a price point slightly lower than the others. I think the extra money for the Fuse may be worth it though.

REVISION:
Who am I kidding. I hate this pump and it makes me frustrated every time I use it. It works eventually, but it usually takes a few tries to get it attached to a tube correctly, and in the process your tube loses a lot of air. I hate to knock our Cutter brand. Some of the Cutter stuff is really good quality, but sadly this pump is not one of those items.

This is a simple, dependable floor pump, I am pretty stoked on it, I was using a Pedros floor pump, it stopped working within a couple of months.
