Mavic Zxellium Shoe - Men's - 2009

If Norwegian pro-racer Thor Hushovd slips his tour-crazy foot into the Mavic Zxellium Cycling Shoe, you can be sure it has some major stiffness and light weight. The thin, feather-light, stiff carbon outsole has a low stack height so you’re closer to the pedal for optimal energy transfer. The heel counter’s full carbon construction lowers weight by 50% (compared to injected heel counters) and holds your heel above the calcaneous bone for comfort and a firm fit. Vibration-absorbing heel and metatarsal elastomer inserts take care of shock and a strong, super light Ergo strap holds your foot down and ventilates.

Bottom Line: A shoe for the pros.

How is the cleat position on the Mavics? I had hear that the adidas shoes (which I believe were made by Mavic) had a reputation for the drillings to be forward on the shoe and not good if you like you cleats back.

While they are more forward than most, I can still adjust the clip back enough to place the center of the pedal under the ball of my big toe. although personally, I prefer the clip slightly forward anyways for sprints and climbs, relying on the stiff as a board carbon sole to transfer power forwards, by slightly pointing my toe downwards. I've also found that this reduces the hot-spot that develops between my big toe and the outside of my foot, as pressure is not being placed directly on the tarsal joint. Anyways, try them on and decide for yourself, that's always the best bet.

They are way forward, i like my cleat right on the ball of my foot and they are way to forward for me, i used them once and was done with them.

Good Shoe

By: John
October 8, 2009

If you have a narrow foot these are the shoes. I did back to back centuries the first time I wore the shoes and there were as comfortable as if I had been wearing them for a year.

Great looking and I have had many people ask me about the shoes.

I wear size 10.0 in a walking around shoe, size 10.5 in a running shoe and size 43.5 in the only cycling shoes I have (Sidi Tri shoes)What size should I try to get in these Mavics?

I'd go with a 10 in these shoes personally. They seem to run true to size.

Very good

By: Torsten

They are very comfortable, stiff and extremely good looking. In my case, I needed whole size larger than my old shoe, which was a Shimano.

I'm a little concerned about the white color and the NY grease on the road. I have no idea how I'll be able to keep them clean over the years.
