Castelli Cardio BibTight - Men's

It hasn’t snowed for a week, and the roads are good and plowed, but damn—it’s cold out there. Castelli designed the Men’s Cardio Bib Tight for days like these. Training in the winter is hard enough without freezing your ass off, so Castelli made these tights from warm, stretchy Thermoflex Core Due fabric. This material not only insulates, it wicks moisture with unprecedented efficiency to prevent that cold, clammy feeling. Thermoflex also supports your muscles and conserves energy. The Cardio’s Free Bib design maintains upper body freedom without mid-section pressure points. Reflective ankle zippers add an extra element of safety, and the AC37 chamois cushions your crotch without bunching.

Bottom Line: Cold-weather training just got easier.

Great with flaws

By: sto2469912
November 7, 2008

The Castelli Cardio Cycling Bib Tight is great providing excellent flexibility while providing good wind and temperature protection. However, it does have some flaws:
a) Sizing is difficult. based on sizing charts I needed a medium but I ordered a large which was still too tight although it works.
b)The Free Bib design was designed by a person who never bends over as the straps dig in to your shoulders and arms to the point where I was sore for two days after a two hour ride. My wife has since devised a strap that positions the bib straps over the chest which has made this device painless to wear.

Advice, do not purchase this bib unless you plan to wear them in a continuous upright position and/or plan to have the straps modified.

Otherwise, a great bib tight.

I would not a suggest any bike short for use during a TRI.

Yes, obviously they would be fine on the bike, but during the swim the chamois would become water logged. Then transitioning into the run; have you ever tried running in a bike chamois? Certainly uncomfortable, as if you were wearing a diaper.

TRI specific chamois are low profile, generally water resistant and definitely a better choice when running a Triathlon.

Though the TRI inventory is very limited at BC.com, you can check out what is a available at:

No problem with size

By: Hans Mueller
February 22, 2009

I have a 31" waist, an 5'11", I wear mediums in anything Castelli that goes on my lower half. Their gear is snug, but by far the most comfortable of any brand I've ever worn. That's my 2cp.

Awesome tights, but issue in the knees

By: Alex
November 1, 2009

I've used two pairs of these (the first pair was perhaps a bit too small), but the stitching around the knees keeps unraveling on me. It is not too bad yet, but it's a little upsetting on such an otherwise high quality piece of clothing. The tights are wonderful in the cold. I'm not sure if they're windproof, but they keep you warm enough that it does not matter. The chamois feels a little odd when you're not wearing the tights--kinda hard and crinkly, but feels pretty darn good when you're wearing them. Silicone grippers around the ankles work quite well. The bibs are tight, but aren't really a deal breaker.

I should mention that BonkTown has been great in helping with returns.

adding to my earlier review

By: tebe3585
April 1, 2009

So I reviewed before and said the shoulder straps were killing me. My girlfriend's mom is a master seamstress, so I had her add in 2 inches of spandex fabric onto the shoulder straps. Now they work fine. Also, I always just put the straps above my base layer. Don't have any more problems with them. I will say that they are generally a little tight, may want to jump up a size. If you can get the sizing to work for you, they are awesome.

Fits me OK

By: TooMuchSAC
July 12, 2009

Ordered these and I think they fit great. It's summer '09 as I write this, so I won't be able to really test them for awhile. I ordered them based on the sizing chart (I did not go one size up as suggested.) I'm about 5' 11", 185lbs, 36" waist and got the XL. The straps are OK too, not to tight. I *think* Castelli meant these as compression insulated tights/bibs, but maybe some people thought they were getting regular tights, and were disappointed. If you think of these as a sort of 'Stabilyx bib tight' rather than just bib, you'd be closer to it's function.

Or maybe I just lucky to have enough Italian in me to fit....!
