why on the detailed view do the tires look different, what is

why on the detailed view do the tires look different, what is the deal with the holes in the main photo. Are these a solid tire for serious snow packed riding? Is it true that narrower tires fair better on snowy/icy conditions than mountain bike tires? I would have thought the other way around.

One detailed view is a tire w/240 studs, the other has 120 studs, hence the empty stud holes.

Robin these are 700c tires. Most notable for road size tires. (Or cross.) I would maybe look into a different tire for a cruiser.
