Gore Bike Wear Alp-X GT Pant - Men's

Don't let a little precip prevent you from getting out—pull on the GORE Bike Wear Men's Alp X Bike Pants and get bomber protection from rain, sleet, and hail. GORE Bike Wear made these pants using its Gore-Tex Paclite material, which is super lightweight, packable, breathable, and guaranteed to keep you dry. The slim-fit Alp X Pants are pre-shaped to a biker's posture and have reinforcement in the seat to resist wear. A high-cut back helps stop puddles from splashing your under layer, and the elasticized waist with a drawcord lets you get a comfy fit regardless of your base layers' thickness. Adjustable leg cuffs mean these pants go on over your shoes and ensure you don't get these pants caught in your chain. Take off the Alp X Pant and stuff into its own back pocket to carry should the weather improve.

Bottom Line: From March road tours in Spain to muddy season mountain biking, these waterproof breathable pants keep you dry.

As Advertised

By: swang2314819
August 11, 2008

I just got back from an Alaskan hiking and biking trip and can testify that the pants work as advertised. They kept me comfortable without getting too hot AND kept me bone dry. We encountered a fair amount of rain and hiked through both wet and snowy conditions with no problems. Fairly pricy, but worth it. If in doubt as to size, I'd suggest the next size UP for a better fit. I was right on the cusp between medium and large and ordered the medium. They were a bit too snug, so I exchanged them for a large which fit quite well.

There is a velcro closure at the bottom leg opening which would need to be relocated as it is what enables you to tighten the leg opening. Dave - GORE BIKE WEAR™

Yes, I love these pants. I think I finally found the right commuting pants for me. Just make sure If you think you wear a large, go with a extra-large.I did not realize euro size were smaller.

Hi all,

I'm considering buying this item. But do I have to wear tights underneath this Pant ? Or just a classic underwear is OK ?

They are not insulated, which helps them be a multi-season pant. So layer with insulated tights on the cold days, bike shorts for extra padding on long rides, or plain old whitey tighties.

Staying Dry.....

By: kelsman581323
October 17, 2008

There is a fine line between sweating from the inside and rain or moisture from the outside. Riding the bike in temperatures above 60F these pants keep the water out but the sweat in too much for me. In the mountains however in temperatures below 60F in either rain or cool weather or both, these rain pants are absolutely great. The combination of wind stopping and keeping rain or road splash out results in keeping one warm and dry down to 45F, which is really needed when bike touring and you have a 10+ mile downhill ahead. What to do for over 60F? I pull out my trusty Alp-X shorts which keeps me dry, not overheated and keeps chafing way down despite the wet conditions.

I usually wear what American sizes would call 32-33 (Zoic, Pearl Izumi).I heard Gore sizing is not very standard. From the sizing chart here, I would choose that M would fit me, but from what I read somewhere else, L would be fine. Can you please make a suggestion? Thanks,Adrian

bullet proof pants

By: owe2612399
December 30, 2008

the pants seem to be cut a little small around the waist....but if i got the next size larger they would be way too long. i rode Christmas day up hwy 1 in north Sonoma co. and i'm very glad to have my alp x pants. the ride started in sun, but i was hit by three storm squalls that were racing down the coast. the first had a mix of hail and sleet in with the rain....i was able to pull off the road under a evergreen tree and change out of my tights into the alp x pants...the pants worked very well, and i was able to stay warm and dry. i've had other rain pants that leaked water through the zippers and i was fine with out a zipper in the front...i was just a little more exposed when i pulled the down to pee. i really enjoy the fit around the knees and the Velcro tabs to tighten the leg around my ankles. the pants do a great job of keeping out the wind and kept me warm and dry

Tough fit

By: dan2648802
January 12, 2009

this is a tough product to design no doubt: by purpose should be a tight fit, windproof water proof fabrics don't have much elasticity, need to keep fit tight to not drag wind...
so, they fit tight, not much room for johnson and the boys, not much flex in the fabric. I had to go to a L with my stock frame, legs are long now but not un manageable. pretty good system to velcro up the slack in the leg, could have a larger velcro area.
because of the long size I had to get the 'flex' areas of the legs don't line up with my knees, again I'm stocky...
good product overall.

Excellent, but go for one size up.

By: s-j-powell2100266
December 10, 2008

I know - someone has already said this, but it's not a maybe. I barely wear a medium in most clothes (5'8" 155lbs), but the medium in these just wouldn't go - maybe if you have a super flat butt, otherwise size up. Large is fine, but still plenty trim fitting.

These do a great job to keep the chill off in 40's or so weather - probably lower, but I hope I don't have to find that out. ;-)

I only wish they had a front zip - what is with that and bike clothes. I ride pretty hard and drink a lot - as I should - and consequently need to take a pit stop occasionally. A zip would sure make it easier and I don't see any downside. Oh well, these are still very well-made, effective, and nice looking wind pants.

Do you not carry the PROFI Pants? Or is there some reason that they don't work out as well? The zip off legs, light weight, and breathability of the Profi seems like it might be an advantage for me in GA, since temperatures are more moderate and I don't plan to be riding in the rain except by accident. Thanks.
