Thanks to a triple compound rubber and all-weather traction, the Fusion 2 Road Tire remains an incredibly versatile choice from the Hutchinson lineup. Ultralight 127 tpi casings keep the weight low, and the hard center strip provides minimal rolling resistance. Hutchinson used a softer rubber on the sides to increase lateral traction and stick you in the corners like glue.
Bottom Line: If you're not sure what weather race day will bring, make sure you have this tire on your bike.
A set of these Hutchinson tires came on my Scott Addict and so I rode them. I've always been a Michelin, Specialized, and Conti tire fan, but since they came with my new rig I figured I'd see how they road. The most impressive factor of these tires is their wear, grip, and puncture resistance. I've logged a few thousand miles on them with minimal flats (can't remember if I've actually gotten a flat or not) and supreme confidence on descents. They're not quite as sticky as an open tubular or a race specific tire, so don't think you're getting that level of grip. By giving a little in the grip area, you gain a lot in flat protection; this is right up there with the Gatorskins or a Specialized Armadillo Elite. I've finished rides and pulled out lodged pieces of glass from the tire on multiple occasions, without a flat occurring. An excellent, high-end all-around clincher tire.
I bought these tires because I had a blow out just before a road trip from Portland to San fransisco. Since then I have put almost 800 miles on them with no flats. Great grip. I would buy them again.
The ultra's, because they're in stock. Basically the same tire too minus some Kevlar which is bomber for sure but they weigh the sames and have the sames TPI. One.
I have to admit. I like the tires. They roll nicely, they handle well in corners, and they don't really feel harsh. I have well over 500 miles on this set and they are still riding great. Not a single flat either. Why not 5 stars then? The first tire I put on I rode for 45 miles and it developed a split in the rubber where that fancy colored rubber meets the side wall deep enough that I could see the casing underneath - in two places. Not exactly confidence inspiring. I liked the feel of these tires enough though, that I risked buying the same tire to replace the defective one hoping I just got a "bad apple". Like I said, so far...
I replaced a set of Armadillos with these and immediately noticed they were lots plusher at 23 than the Armadillo 23/25. Also handled better, and absorbed the punishment of the crappy city roads I travel. The clincher was yesterday, I heard tick tick tick from the front tire, stopped and pulled out a quarter inch glass dagger protruding from the center of the tread. No problem! They look better than the Armadillo elites too.
Not really but in my experience the folding beads are easier. I have had two pairs of Hutchinson tires one folding on steel bead, both were pretty hard to mount because the fit was tight and the tire was narrow.
I love these tires. For the price, this is a great all around tire....they roll nice, I notice cracks and bumps less with these than the Vittoria Rubino's I was riding. I would highly recommend these to anybody.
Tired of having flat with my old Michelin tires, i decided to invest in better ones. Wow! I wasn't expecting to feel a difference! The ride is smooth and powerful, i used them for 1-1/2 month so far, no flat, super happy.
when you pump this tire up, it gets hard. its nice and thin. it feels secure. its extremely difficult to get it onto the rim... but im no pro... and its worth it once its on... but itd be annoying on the road for a flat
there is little friction for turning... they seem to have a very low rolling resistance, so in a turn i am not as comfortable with them.
