Michelin Pro3 Race Road Tire

Frédéric Guesdon from France won Paris-Roubiax on clinchers in 1997, possibly the only rider to do so. He was on Michelin Pros. The grippy Pro 3 Race Tire is the third generation of this cobbled-race winner—Michelin puts as much effort into testing its road cycling tires as it does its Formula One racecar tires. With Michelin's Silica Energy rubber compound, these tires' incredible grip and cornering adhesion doesn't come at the cost of increased rolling resistance; they perform superbly in crits and the Roubaix velodrome, too. The Pro 3's HDPP (High-Density Puncture Protector) reinforcement under the center tread gives you exceptional blowout resistance. *Sold individually.

Bottom Line: Attack muddy, rutted, cobbled roads with these pro-level tires.

Race tires only

By: Randy Sherwood
February 3, 2009

I got these tires on my first real road bike. I bought the bike to continue exercising to get in shape and loose weight. I ride about 100 miles a week in Orlando, FL on the roads in and around the south side of town. I had my first flat at 400 miles. I have been patching the outer gray part of the tire with shoe "Goop". These tires are very prone to cuts and I would not recommend them for recreational riding. I expect to get about 500 - 600 miles out of these tires. I have already purchased a different set of tires to replace these with because they cut so easily. I think these would be great if you had a separate set of rims for racing and used something else for training.

Randy-You don't patch tires just tubes!!! Also I get 6000 miles on these tires and log in 19,000 miles a year racing and training on the Pro,1,2 circuit. These are one of the best tires you can buy.

These are more cuts on the same tire. These have about 500 miles on them now. Save these tires for race day!!

Race only

The sidewalls on these tires are really thin so the smallest rock and you need another tire. Don't use these as your training tires because you will spend alot of money replacing them as a rip in the sidewall cannot be easily fixed (I went through 3 tires in less than one month!!!).

I have been patching these tires with shoe "Goop". It stays on very well. These tires are very prone to cuts.

Still Great

By: Jamie Preston
November 21, 2008

Anytime a company changes a good thing I cringe. When I was having a hard time finding the Pro 2 this spring I was worried. The next generation is just as good. A nice smooth tire with low rolling resistance. They are also durable - my road ride begins and ends with a mile of dirt road - other than some of the other softer tires out there, no problems. This is great tire that upholds the reputation of its predecessors.
I have to add that I must have been lucky after reading the other reviews. I truly put a lot of dirt road miles on these tires and I did finally cut them - but only after going through a nasty pothole. I suppose the Conti GP is probably tougher but I love the feel of this tire.

great race tire

I love these tires! They grip the road great and are very light. I have used these tires for many miles but if you are commuting and hard on tires go with something more sturdy. These are best used for racing when you need high performance.

Happy Trails

By: James Lovell Realcyclist.com Employee
December 17, 2008

I have been a long time user of the Michelin Pros. I have tried other tires and they just don't feel the same - not bad just different - and I guess I just don't have the patience to switch.

Having said this I was a bit nervous about the change from the Pro 2s to the Pro 3s, but left without options, I made the switch. I only got a handful of rides on them before the roads turned all white and icy, but I am happy to say that I am still pleased with the tire and anticipate continuing to use them in the future.
