Northwave Bike Aerlite S.B.S. Cycling Shoe - Men's
The Northwave Men's Aerlite S.B.S. Cycling Shoe combines Formula One technology and Italian craftsmanship in one stiff, light, and cool competition shoe. The Aerlite S.B.S. features Northwave's exclusive Aerator System, with vents in the toe that scoop air into the shoe, past your foot and out the rear. The full-length carbon fiber soleplate maximizes stiffness, while a thermoformed wooden midsole provides revolutionary comfort and fit. The upper works as hard as you do, securing your feet in a Web Power Cage that goes from arch to instep to heel, then locking you in with the Step-By-Step S.B.S. micro-adjustable buckle.
Bottom Line: The Aerlite S.B.S. is Northwave's flagship competition cycling shoe.
Had Pearl Izumi Octanes (silver with the BOA system) prior to these shoes. I really like the adjustability you get with these shoes. You can tighten any of the velcro straps to get the shoe tighter over the toes or top of the instep. The micro adjustable buckle is easy to reach down while your riding and make small adjustments to the heel area. Carbon baseplate has stood up well to any scrapes or pedal mishaps. Very lightweight and stiff - toebox is wider than most high end shoes (which I love, having a wide foot). Ventilation is not an issue (though my Octanes were a little better). Definitely use some Smartfeet inserts to alleviate "hotspots", I've got the yellow ones and they are great!
Parker, You nailed it! I would 100% agree, these are really the best with custom or semi custom foot beds. The fit is simply amazing once you drop in a custom foot bed.
I'm currently wearing a pair of Women's Northwave Velvet SBS road shoes that I love. But I've been wanting a full carbon soled shoe, like this one. My women's Northwaves are a size 42...would I order the same exact size in this Men's Aerlite SBS shoe?
These are some great cycling shoes. I was skeptical when Northwave first hit the scene but I ended up with a contract to wear them for a while when I lived in Italy. Back then the soles were far too soft but they've come a long way since that time. Now their plenty stiff and have all the nuts and bolts of an amazing top end cycling shoe. They've always been very comfortable though. I never felt any hot spots and never had issues with any portion of these shoes. They especially look euro in white/silver....if you wanna go that road.
I have a bad hot spot on the metatarsil bone on my left foot. The right shoe does not bother me at all. I can't ride more than 20 miles because the pain gets too bad. Anyone have any advice or help? Thanks.
Bad cleat alignment can cause alot of ot spots in the foot and knee irritation. The first thing I would want to check is your cleat fit and alignment. Either get a professional cleat fit or atleast make sure that as you go through your pedal stroke you heal isn't touching that end of the pedal float. If so re-align the cleat so it doesn't stop in your stroke or try a cleat with more float. Hopefully other have more to say.

Hi Nicholas. Not sure if your question has been answered, but would like to give you some information in regard to you inquiry. For 2010 Northwave has introduced the Race Construction to the Aerlite categories for both road and mtb. This is not an additional model or sku, but a new fit scenario in response to athlete and consumer needs. This is accomplished by simply a new closure over the top of the foot at the toe box. This allows Northwave to adapt to a broader range of footshapes without changing the overall last. Thanks for your inquiry and interest in Northwave.
These puppies bark! Maybe that isn't clear enough? These shoes rock! The vents really let the air flow unlike many other 'vented' shoes out there and the northwave buckle ratchets up the feel like a champ. The shoe is stiff as a board but still comfortable. Like many of the other reviews, I would suggest you buy a liner to go with these, but that's kind of a no-brainer with cycling shoes. Bottom line, best shoes I've ridden in! You will not be disappointed!

I am subject to getting "hot" feet and previously used Sidi. The NW shoes have a wider toe box then any other shoes I have tried and have great ventalation. These are a great shoe and even better value. You can't go wrong and as the previous reviewer pointed out, the style is great.
On Sale: $207.16 - $258.95======The $207 - 2008 White blue color=====The $258 2009 All White :-) & Red/white colors==== The difference COLORS :-) White blue is not current for 2009, but a great deal - as they are the same shoe.
OK for starters Hot Foot is mostly...no absolute's ...but ..is primarily caused by other factors and not because of your carbon sole shoe ..of any brand, but of cleat placement on the shoe (fore or aft). Hot Foot see a Bike Fitting Expert...they can solve it for around $50 bucks.
The shoe.........well I have this shoe and love it. These shoes are a bit heavy but i dont really notice it.
Want a Tour Performance shoe at half the cost....this is your shoe!
I have enjoyed these shoes so far. They feel great and I have no regrets in my purchase. I like the air flow through the shoe and they are very comfortable. No complaints. I highly recommend dealing with backcountry. They were more than accommodating when i purchased the wrong size online. You guys are great!
NICE LOOKING SHOE WITH THE LIGHTNESS AND PERFORMANCE YOU NEED ON A SUMMER RIDE. THE CARBON SOLE GIVES IT THE STIFFNESS FOR THOSE HILL CLIMBS AND THE BUCKLE SYSTEM IS SECOND TO NONE. ALL IN ALL IT HAS STYLE, PERFORMACE...RIDE ON.
From my experience, NW shoes run pretty true to size. I'm a size 10-10.5 US depending on the brand but my feet are more narrow than most so i decided to go with a 42.5 (=10 US. from the sizing chart) and they fit perfectly. I think you can be confident that the 44.5 will be the right size for you.
These shoes are great. The shoe bag & free pair of Northwave socks with vents that match the shoes were a nice surprise. Bottom line, these are amazing shoes, place a custom foot bed in these and it is pure heaven! Also, the buckle is 10x better then the Shimano & Sidi buckle. Remember that Northwave is also a snowboard company, so they know how to make buckles that actually work & can be easily adjusted while on the bike. WAY stiff carbon sole, great inside feel, Super ventilation.
Normal shoe sizes is a loaded question, since 'normal' can mean a number of shoe types and cuts. If you know your typical Euro shoe size, you'll probably be right on the money with that shoe size. If not, try converting your dress shoe size for best fit. If you don't like the fit when they arrive, returns are super easy with Backcountry's killer return policy.
I really like the Northwave Bike Aerlite S.B.S. Cycling Shoe. Can someone advise on cleat compatibility, though? I have an older SPD-R cleat, for a Dura-Ace road pedal from about 2000. (I know I'm due for an update, but I actually still love the pedal and want to keep running them awhile longer. Here's a link to a picture of the cleat:http://www.freedommachine.com.au/tn/spdrs04.jpg
Since this shoe is fit for 3 hole road cleats, you shouldn't have any problems. That is not a 3-hole cleat. Its a 2-hole cleat.I have the both the cleats and Shimano shoe 44.5 if you are interested. delafemme@gmail.com
