Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Cycling Short - Men's

Pearl Izumi’s best-selling Men’s P.R.O. Cycling Short transfers moisture faster than you can say, 'Damn, that was a steep climb.' These contoured shorts with ergonomically placed panels give you an aerodynamic, muscle-compressing fit, and flat seams free you from chafing discomfort. Silicone gripper on the hems ensures these shorts don’t migrate upward as you pedal, and a multi-density chamois cushions those important parts.

Bottom Line: Go with the P.R.O.

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Cycling Short

By: Steven Dill
November 2, 2009

I've had several shorts in the past. I recently bought a Elite version of P.I. shorts to compare. they were just about half as much. You can tell the difference in riding comfort with these. You can last a lot longer in the saddle but whether they are worth the expense. I guess I'll see how long they last in comparison. I ride about 31 miles a day, as the weather permits. So comfort is worth something. Nothing I've bought has complete comfort. I still have to stand and coast to get a little relief from time to time. They are made well our of good materials. That's about all I can say about them at this time.

High Comfort

By: Dave Frenz
April 20, 2009

I was immediately surprised at how much better their chamois was. I own many pairs of PI shorts and these PRO shorts are superior in comfort. Another item I consider an advantage is they are slightly longer than I am used to and end up just above the knee. This makes them a better early morning short without needing leg warmers.

The longest ride I had with them so far was 50 miles. On the negative side, they had some 'hot spots' and I would recommend you continue using whatever cream or rub you are used to. I am a 35-36 waist and the large size fit me well on the loose side ever so little, The compression was there but I would recommend a size down if you are between sizes.

Sizing Help Needed. I am trying to decide which size to purchase

Sizing Help Needed.

I am trying to decide which size to purchase - L or XL. I have a pair of XL PI mountain bike insert shorts that fit well in the thighs, but are to big around my waist (I am 34 waist). I am afraid the P.R.O. size L thighs will be too small and the XL waist will be too big - but I also think that this cycling fit is different than the PI Mountain shorts I have. I have a Serfas L road short that fits well and a Hincapie XL that fits well. Thanks for the advise!

I'm 36 inches in the waist. I got the large size and they fit great for me.

The PRO chamois is a bit firmer than the Elite chamois but both are have 13mm of padding on the sit bones. The PRO chamois fits a bit different and has the padding situated more prononunced on the sit bones rather than being thick over the entire sit area.

According to the linked chart the PRO chamois is for extremely long rides. I personllay haven't been on the bike longer than 4 or 5 hours in either short.

Another short of choice for me is the Sugoi RS. The chamois in the RS is very much like the PRO 3D in shape and density but the short has a elastic leg cuff. Apart from the Pearl Izumi they are my favorite.

Thanks. I am looking with a really good Chamois for long rides - is the 3D elite chamois in the Slice as good as the PRO 3D?

Thanks for the tip on the thigh band - that is usually where the shorts are too small.

I have the same measurements as you and wear a size Large in all PI products. The P.R.O. short has a compressions band on the leg that doesn't stretch as much as other Pearl Izumi shorts. The leg has noticable more compression than the Slice so you will notice they are tighter in the leg. If you don't like the compression feel go with the PI Slice in Large.

good fit, poor comfort

By: mhopwood2000674

I liked how they fit on my legs but for some reason the chamois just wasn't comfortable for me. It is thick and soft but somehow there was a fit issue when riding. Backcountry took them back no question asked.

The pearl has it going on!

These shorts are amazing. The fit are outstanding along with the comfort they provide on long or short rides. The 3D chamois is top of the line, so go out there and purchase these you won't be disappointed. They look good too.

Top Quality as Always

By: Craig Julien

Can never go wrong with Pearl Izumi. I have always worn their shorts. The P.R.O. version is a great buy. Comfortable and secure. Wasn't sure about the draw string but I like it.
