SRAM RED Cassette OG-1090

Lighter than the “other two”, harder than titanium, and featuring an advanced monocoque milled-steel design, the SRAM Red OG-1090 Cassette is just plain awesome. The top eight cogs of the OG-1090 are actually machined in one piece from a solid block of cromoly steel, then nickel plated for hardness. That means that they, or it, is or are amazingly stiff, bare-knuckle tough, and light enough to justify the cost before you even consider the simplicity of not dealing with eight cogs and spacers. Two floating final cogs complete the OG-1090's ten speeds, with the same smooth-shifting OpenGlide tooth configuration as the top eight.

Bottom Line: We hate to call anything the “best”…but the OG-1090 Cassette makes a strong case.

Light and nice, pricey, limited sizing

This is great cassette, is super light and wears well. The price is very high and can really only be justified for weight weenies. The sizes are limited because it only comes as a 11 cog low gear. For those without compact cranks a 12 cog may be preferable.

Shifts well but don't run it for cyclocross. The mud won't clear and shifting diminishes.

One detail. SRAM Cassettes will fit hubs that are Shimano 9/10 speed compatible. SRAM Cassettes do NOT fit Shimano compatible Hubs that have a Shimano Deep-spline cassette body. If your wheels are late-model 10-speed Shimano or are new within the last 2-3 years check with the wheel manufacturer for compatibility. For easton and zipp wheels look for a black cassette hub body. Those are 9/10 compatible.

Yes! SRAM and Shimano components are generally interchangeable. You are correct. Just remember the exception is rear shifters and derailleurs. SRAM uses a 1:1 pull ratio whereas Shimano uses 2:1.

I was initially worried that having the entire cassette sit on only two connection points would end up eating my aluminum freehub, but after a season of riding there is no damage to the freehub. The weight is very low, and so far the wear is comparable to DA. Great product SRAM

Like the one piece construction for the top 8 cogs. Very light. It makes a little more noise than the shimano cassettes but somehow it's a soothing noise, one that says "I'm about to pass you".
If you are running other shimano components with this cassette the noise will be a bit louder. I was running a shimano dura ace chain and switched to a SRAM and got considerably less noise.
