With a new, lighter Carbon Composite sole, the Men's Genius 5.5 brings even more performance to Sidi's outstanding line of cycling shoes. Replacing last year's two-piece Hi-Tech carbon sole, the 2008 Genius 5.5 features an injected carbon sole fused to a nylon matrix, resulting in reduced weight and added stiffness for racers and dedicated enthusiasts alike. Sidi carefully designs their carbon inserts for optimal performance, while building in foot-saving flex to keep you riding long and strong. The Genius 5.5 also incorporates Sidi's legendary Lorica upper, Ultra SL buckle, and High Security hook-and-loop strap fastening system.
Bottom Line: Sidi's Genius 5.5 turns up the power with the magic of carbon.
I have wide feet and went with the megas. Shoe fits perfect and is very comfortable. You can dial the fit in with the velcro straps and the ratchet to make give you that glove fit. I'm not sure they are worth the extra dough over the non carbons, I can't do a side-by-side comparison, but I can say these are wicked nice shoes.
I require a very wide fitting, particularly the left foot. Tennis shoes are size 12 with 6E (which I use on the bike) For normal shoes I favour Seibel - size 47 with K fitting. Can Sidi supply such wide fittings. So far all trial fittings have failed.
People with wide feet have a extremely rough time finding cycling specific cleated shoes. I heard Lake extra-wide are wider that the Sidi Mega but with a 6E mutant foot any production shoes is going to come up short. I suggest two things. 1. If you don't plan on biking a huge amount (less that 100 miles a week) find a wide shoe with a flat base and as little mesh as possible and have it professionally streatched.
2. If you bike alot save your poor feet and spring for a D2 or Bont custom fit shoe.
I got these in the regular width at first. But there was not enough strap for me to close them very well. I switched to the "Mega" version, which is their wider shoe, and they fit perfectly. Very comfortable, only a little discomfort on my first century, but it didn't last long. My feet have always been a little wide. Highly recommended.
I received the "mega" version in a 43 and they fit very well. Just what the doctor ordered. Somehow, the Sidi are easier to clip into the pedals, the velcro straps "lock" into place, and the buckle works well. I crashed and burned a couple of days ago riding in the dark, but the material held up very well where I scraped it on the asphalt. Highly recommended.
I just got a pair of these. My foot has always been somewhere between a regular shoe and a wide shoe. I also have somewhat of a high arch. These shoes do not fit my feet. I will be returning these and getting the "mega" which are made for wider feet. However, the materials, craftsmanship, and overall quality is obviously superior to my current Cannondale shoes. I would highly recommend these if you have a more average foot than mine. I got a size 43 which they call out as a size 9 and the length was correct.
Didn't have it. Been using Sidi for a long time. These are the best yet. Sidi is made with perfection. No detail overlooked including rider comfort. Do not hit ankles or achilles tendon. And yes they are so comfortable that you don't need to take them off. This site has great customer service and really fast shipping. Will order again, in fact I did. Thanks.
Although i did not return these shoes for any other reason than my wife had allready bought me the same shoes for my Birthday as suprise. I did not even take the shoes out of the box and told the associate. But he did not care he said no problem and just credited back my credit card. With Service like this WHY would you but from another merchant . Backcountry has it right great equipment, great prices and great service. Thanks and best wishes Backcountry in the coming years.
This Genius edition replaced my 4 years old one and after two major long rides i trust them like no other; light, yet rigid under the foot, easily adjustable while riding, well balanced, well aerated, even a pleasure to walk with. The Mega size makes this shoe a winner for me.
While Sidi does make the shoe in white, Backcountry does not currently stock it. Talk to your local Sidi dealer for help ordering a white 5.5.http://www.sidiusa.com/dealers.html
I've had a pair of these for about 3 years now, and they are still going strong. Been through two sets of cleats, but the shoes hardly look used. With prices on shoes seemingly going through the roof, this is a solid performer at a decent price. You'll get many years of good use from them.
When I worked in bike shops throughout the 1990s, we had saying ... either you ride Sidi, or you WILL ride Sidi. At that time I never met anyone who switched from Sidi to another brand of shoe.
This is especially true of my own experience. I've been riding Sidi since the original Genius model; and currently ride the Sidi Genius 5.5 Mega Mesh. Every time I wear out a pair of shoes, I try various models, and always end up back in a new, upgraded pair of Sidis.
Sidi's are hands down the most comfortable durable shoes out there. Plus these are pimped out silver, what more could you want. I have had the mt. bike version of these for 5 years and they still work flawlessly.
