I have always purchased cycling shoes over the internet so getting the correct fit was an issue. I would try the shoes on in a LBS (local bike shop), then purchase on the internet to take advantage of the sales and no tax. Even so, the shoes never fit my foot quite right.

I purchased the Shimano R220 through Backcountry saving $60 versus my LBS. Paid $20 @ my LBS to get them fit properly (Shimano approved). Best fitting shoes I have owned. I put on 1,500+ miles here at the end of the year with no complaints.

Shimano SH-R220 Road Cycling Shoe - Men's

The heel cup and foot bed are both heat-moldable. You can mold it by using your oven at home (very carefully as to not melt the uppers), the shoes typically include instructions as to how this is done.I did not receive instructions on how to heat and mold my R220's. Find the Shimano website and search via zip code ofr a local bike shop with the equipment to properly fit your shoes.
