Great beginner shoe

I bought these as my first clip-in shoe earlier this year. While shopping, I tried on a number of brands and sizes, but found that these fit me the best and are true to size. I don't have issues with wide/narrow feet when shoe shopping, so I can't speak for those sizes. During the first 200 miles or so, I did get some mild foot soreness, but I don't notice it anymore so I think it was just like adjusting to any new pair of shoes.

The one aspect of these shoes that concerned me when I bought them was that they didn't have a ratchet mechanism like many of the other shoes I tried on. I was half expecting to return them after my first ride once I could justify a more expensive shoe with a ratchet that wouldn't slide around on my foot. Fortunately I still own these. The 3 velcro straps do a great job of keeping the shoe planted on my foot. I cannot feel any sliding whatsoever and the way I see it, it's one less thing to break or wear out.

Ventilation is so-so. If I really focus on my feet I can feel some air getting to them. I will probably pay a little more attention to ventilation when it comes time for new shoes.

Happy with these gloves!

Pearl Izumi Select Gel Glove

I chose to go with gel gloves because I was having problems with my hands going numb even on short rides. When I bought these gloves, I first made changes to my seat height and position to make sure that that wasn't the problem, but my hands went numb again after 10 miles. The next day I used these gloves on a 40 mile ride with the same bike setup without any numbness. Great gloves IMHO.
