Decent shoe for the price, good for wide feet

Northwave Bike Vertigo Carbon Cycling Shoe - Men's

Northwave Bike Vertigo Carbon Cycling Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2010

Another reviewer commented that the toe box on these shoes is too big; more accurately, they're made for a wider foot. I picked up a pair on Bonktown and I like them: they're comfortable, reasonably stiff, and well made.

A note on sizing: I typically wear a 9 to 9 1/2; with most shoes this translates to a 43 European, but with Northwave, the 42 was the best. (The sizing chart usually shown on Bonktown does in fact indicate a 42 corresponding to a 9 1/2.)

Nice feel and you actually get enough ...

PRO by Shimano Handlebar Tape - Microfiber

PRO by Shimano Handlebar Tape - Microfiber

Rating for this product: 4 February 28, 2010

... to wrap your bars fully, which is a nice touch. Why all the other manufacturers scrimp and don't give an extra 6 inches or so is beyond me.

It has a feel similar to Fizik's own microfiber. Like many tapes, has a peel-back adhesive strip on the bar side. I haven't had to remove it yet, but I suspect it should come off without any problems.

Weak stitching, too tight on legs

Castelli Leggerezza BibTight - Men's

Castelli Leggerezza BibTight - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 7, 2009

I bought a set of these, size XL, and found them almost impossible to fit around my legs. I have decent-sized legs and I could feel the stitching popping when I pulled them up around my calves. If you have very slender, Bradley-Wiggins legs these should be ok for you. Otherwise I'd avoid them.

Super base layer for 30 - 50 degrees

Cutter Hoodlum Shirt - Men's

Cutter Hoodlum Shirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2009

I ordered one of these hooded wool shirts to use as a base layer for cold-weather riding, but I wasn't sure about the sizing. First off, I have a 43" chest and I ordered the Large, which has a 40" chest according to Cutter's unique way of measuring. Spot on for me: form-fitting but not super tight.

On rides when it's in the mid-30s I've worn this under a long-sleeve jersey and a midweight jacket. I start out with the hood up over some earwarmers, and then midway through I might peel back the hood. If it's in the upper-40's you might get by with this and an insulated long-sleeve jersey. It's not super, super warm, but it allows you to layer nicely. And no scratchiness against the skin. I love it and just ordered two more at Bonktown prices.

Good adjustments, comfortable, can get hot

Uvex Sport Boss RS Helmet

Uvex Sport Boss RS Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 June 22, 2009

I got this Uvex on Bonktown for a price I couldn't pass up, and at that price I'd have to say it would be tough to beat. It's reasonably comfortable, quite adjustable, light and looks good. One thing I like is that the front pad wrapping around the forehead strap actually is removable (it has a velcro backing and wraps around), which is nice when you want to wash it out. My only caveat with this helmet is it's not vented quite as well as my primary helmet: a Giro Pneumo. I definitely notice that it feels hotter when the temps climb. Overall, though, a great value.

Perfect for training early or late

Cutter Mini District Rear Safety Light

Cutter Mini District Rear Safety Light

Rating for this product: 5 June 13, 2009

I'm very satisfied with this mini light: It mounts easily on your seatpost; comes with two widths of spacers; battery installation is simple; it's compact and doesn't interfere at all with your legs; easy to put on and take off; and it's easy to operate with two flashing settings and one steady. For commuting I'd go with a larger light, but this one is perfect for when you're out training early or late, when you just might need that added safety margin.
