The small ended up fitting better all around, but both are fine (I had already worn the medium, so I'll just keep it). What I really like about these shorts is the waist band. It's wider, so it doesn't dig into your middle. The fabric is also very pliable, so it really moves with you. I also haven't experienced any chafing from the chamois. I joked with my friends that I almost forgot I had shorts on at all -- I had to look down a couple of times to make sure -- b/c these shorts are so comfortable!
