It sits up high enough to cover the back of your neck and is substantially thick enough to ward off cold wind. I unfortunately had to return it b/c it was too bulky of a fit around upper arm area. Was looking for a tighter, close to body fit but with this particular material is pretty thick - but super warm/wind resistant.
